Methodist Church Notes from Angie Skerritt
TUESDAY FELLOWSHIP
The Tuesday Fellowship meet fortnightly. The first meeting in February was a games afternoon. The second was an afternoon of poetry, rhymes and odes; one or two classic poems, others not so!!
CHRISTMAS LUNCH
Christmas 2024 seems a long way away now but we didn’t finish our celebrations until the end of January when we enjoyed our Christmas Sunday Lunch.
MISSIONS GROUP
Our Missions Group has been looking for ways we could use to promote mission both at home and abroad. To this end we visited 3 churches in Leicester with the hope of picking up a few ideas that we could adapt and use ourselves. We found one or two ideas that would be appropriate for Countesthorpe, which is encouraging.
PLANS
In February we planned our 2025 events; in fact we started our events programme the same month with a Bric-à-Brac, Books, Cake and Jigsaw sale!
SUPPER
Sausage and Chip suppers are always popular. This year our annual supper was on 15th March with the sausage and chips served with either mushy peas or baked beans (with an option of vegetarian sausages).

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER
On the 7th March
we joined St
Andrew’s for the
World Day of
Prayer which is
celebrated annually
in over 170
countries. This year
the service was put
together by the Cook Islands. On the first Friday in March the Day of Prayer begins on the international dateline with the first service of the day in Samoa in the South Pacific. The rotation of the earth brings a succession of world prayer days like a Mexican Wave! The final service of the Day is in American Samoa.
TOILET TWINNING
We have recently sponsored two toilets through Toilet Twinning - one in Zambia and one in Malawi. Toilet Twinning started in 2010 and funds global water, sanitation and hygiene programmes run by Tearfund.
Before our Missions service on 2nd March, a popular breakfast of ‘Bacon Butties’ was served at 9am; vegetarian and gluten free butties were available if needed. The service was in support of the ‘All We Can’ charity. The charity is the operating name for the Methodist Relief and Development Fund which partners organisations all over the world who are very committed to strengthening local communities so that they can sustain their own growth. The Fund is based at the British Methodist Church headquarters in London. The charity was named with reference to John Wesley’s famous quote
“Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.”
