            12 THE NEW COUNTESTHORPE HERALD
APRIL 2025
The application has received 562 public objections, while three have voiced their support. Countesthorpe Parish Council is among those opposed - even though the current scheme is 10 homes fewer than those originally put before BDC.
In its objection, the Parish Council said it wanted issues to be investigated by the District Council prior to making a recommendation to its planning committee. As part of its objection, the Parish Council said: “reports by residents living on Hallcroft Avenue of rising sewage, indicate that the sewerage system is already inadequate. The Parish Council therefore strongly requests a full and complete assessment by Severn Trent Water of the sewerage system in this area before a decision is made on this application.”
  GILLAM BUTTS PLANS
STILL ON HOLD
The controversial plan to build 41 homes on land off Gillam Butts has been deferred due to the publication of “new surface water flood maps”. Hampton Oak Developments Ltd plan for land in
Countesthorpe has previously been met with hundreds of objections.
The plan was due to be discussed at Blaby District’s February planning committee meeting. However, when the item came up for discussion Blaby District Councillor Mike Shirley said there had been “new surface water flood risk maps” that had been published by the Environment Agency, which show that part of the area around the vehicular access to the site is within high risk of surface water flooding. Councillor Shirley concluded the discussion by saying that the application would be presented at a future planning committee at a date to be confirmed. Since being submitted, the plan has proved controversial in Countesthorpe.
