Brass plaque – Active Arts would like to donate a brass plaque to be hung inside the chapel showing the additional names which were not included on the War Memorial. It was recommended to accept the offer subject to agreeing the wording. They would also like to put a display in the library to commemorate the two VC’s: it was resolved to ask Active Arts whether they would put a display in the cabinets in the Village Hall lobby instead. Memorial board – it was recommended to seek advice regarding suitable wood for the damp conditions. It was further recommended to use gold wording and to order two boards of the same size: one for the 1st World War and one for the 2nd World War and subsequent conflicts. Greenhouse - The groundsman have requested a greenhouse to enable them to grow bedding plants for the planters. It was recommended to obtain costings, including health and safety barriers, as
it is intended to site the greenhouse next to the garage near the hall fire exit.
Playground repairs - The safety matting under the zip wire is not wide enough, it was therefore recommended to purchase additional 23mm matting at a cost of £232. It was suggested that an additional seat is bought for Leysland Play Area: it was recommended to consider this in next year’s budget. It was also recommended to use any surplus Sl06 funding, remaining after the installation of the trim trail on Willoughby Road, to purchase additional play equipment for Leysland Play Area.

would like hand crafted lettering on the bench.
It was recommended to obtain details of suitable suppliers, these will be forwarded to the resident for her preferred option. The seat will be owned and maintained by the Parish Council.
Grass Maintenance - The groundsmen have agreed to carry out the grass maintenance work, which
is currently contracted out. They will require a ride-on mower and have obtained details of a second hand machine at a cost of £5000. It was recommended to cancel the existing contractors, whose work has not been to the standard required by the Parish Council, at the end of the current year’s mowing season and to purchase the machinery required from next year’s budget.
Dog bin placement - It was recommended to place a dog bin on Linden Farm Drive at the entrance
to the Country Park: permission will be required from LCC.
Lectern - A quotation for a lectern, to be
placed on land in front of the Health Centre,
has been received. It was recommended to ask Countesthorpe & Foston Heritage Group whether they would like to forward design ideas showing the history of the village.
Maintenance issues - Concerns were raised regarding the condition of the changing room facilities on Willoughby Road Playing Field:
it is understood that they have been broken
into several times. These facilities are owned
by Countesthorpe Athletic Club and it was recommended to write to the club requesting an update on the future of the club and to suggest, as the best way forward, that the changing facilities are removed. The first half of the yearly rent is due
31st August.
A complaint has been received regarding the bleakness of the scattering section in the cemetery. It was resolved to plant Peace roses in the areas either side of the scattering section.
Matters arising for information purpose - No matters were arising.
It was resolved to approve the recommendations of the working party.
VILLAGE HALL MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE
Report – The Chairman reported that quotations have been sourced to hire a dishwasher, however this proved not to be cost efficient and the Committee are therefore purchasing a dishwasher. The U3A has written regarding setting out the chairs for their monthly meeting: options are being investigated. A local building society has requested two parking spaces in the front car park: they have been informed that spaces cannot be reserved and therefore it will depend on availability.
To approve accounts for payments as verified by the Finance Working Party.
COUNTRY PARK
The fields have now been cut, assumingly by the developer. Deadly Nightshade has been spotted on the park, which has been reported to BDC, however it has still not been removed. It was resolved to chase BDC for an update.
THE FINANCE WORKING PARTY
Budget update/review - The budget was discussed and all is in order. The Estates Working Party are investigating purchasing a lectern, but will require allocation of funding: it was recommended to defer until next meeting.
Financial regulations in respect of Petty Cash – It was recommended to adopt the amendment to 6.20a regarding petty cash, as per comments in the Internal Auditor’s report: this was resolved. Update Financial Risk Assessment to include library - It was recommended to adopt the amendments: this was resolved.
Library - It was recommended to continue a library float of £15.00 from day one. The library service currently offers limited free printing/ copying to pupils for homework and CV’s for the unemployed. It was recommended to continue
the service and review the following month, after taking over the library. It is understood that the internet will no longer be available to library
